History
1911
T.J. Jones, an Irish immigrant, moved to Port Arthur, Ontario in 1911. He immediately became established in the construction business and launched the Jones Family name to the industry. His expertise was in civil construction such as excavation, blasting and concrete foundations. He left his mark on many well-known City of Thunder Bay landmarks including the PUC (Whalen Building), the Port Arthur General Hospital and the Black Bay free span concrete bridge, which was one of the first in North America.
1948
In 1948, his son, T.A. Jones, took the helm of the family business and continued in his father’s footsteps by building many of Northwestern Ontario’s landmarks, including Lakehead University’s first building and four of the five building contracts for the Shebandowan Lake Mine.
1965
In 1965, the third generation of sons took control of the business, Tom and John Jones. Since then, the two brothers have successfully built the company and expanded its expertise into diversified sectors from Heavy Civil and Institutional, to Commercial and Design Build projects. Over the past 20 years, Tom Jones Corporation has also broadened its reach, expanding into North American and international markets.
