Project Description

This Project comprises a two storey addition to the patient wing of the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre located at 980 Oliver Road, Thunder Bay, Ontario.

This required the demolition of the existing light well and infill construction of two floor openings and the penthouse of the existing hospital with interior renovations and an expansion of the existing penthouse.

Tom Jones Corporation was the General Contractor. Construction was of Concrete grade beams on steel piles structural steel and metal stud infill with masonry and stone veneer and curtain wall generally to match existing Hospital building.

This expansion created for the introduction of a Percutaneous Coronary Intervention program for the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre. The angioplasty suite was designed around four functional program areas; reception and waiting, preparation- holding and recovery, procedure area, and support area. The new patient short stay room was built to accommodate six patient stretchers, a nursing station and two barrier free patient washrooms.
