Project Description

The design-build team of Tom Jones Corporation with H. Bradford Green Architect Inc. completed a new, 6,600 cubic metre Heavy Equipment Maintenance Garage for Thunder Bay Hydro Electricity Distribution Inc.

A new pre-engineered building incorporated relevant design considerations for a fully functional maintenance garage with self-contained mechanical/electrical systems. Ground level office, lunch room (complete with windows), locker room and washroom facilities eliminated stair access ultimately increasing productivity and ensuring workers safety.

The building's structural design included a 5 Tonne motorized overhead single girder bridge type crane capable of travelling and hoisting material throughout the main repair area and able to drop and hoist material between the mezzanine storage and floor surface.

Civil design provided the appropriate inter-connections to the utilities and site infrastructure for water supply, sanitary and storm sewers, natural gas, electricity, cable and telecommunications. Site design incorporated storm water management, grading and landscaping.
