Project Description

Tom Jones Corporation completed a Design-Build expansion to the Emergency Response Operation Centre (EROC) & Sand Storage Facility for the Thunder Bay International Airport Authority Inc.  The addition for vehicle and sand storage is approximately 70 feet wide by 80 feet long (2 bays) and provides adequate space to house 2 pieces of runway snow clearing equipment.

The design allows for a tie-in to the existing space through an interior wall, equipment access to the building through overhead doors, an area for industrial shelving to be accessed by a fork lift, and a specialized radiant heating system for snow melt. An extension to the apron slab both on the North and South side of the facility was also in the scope.

As Design-Builder Tom Jones Corporation managed the project in an occupied building environment and ensured that the work was coordinated in such a way as to mitigate disruption to the normal operation of the facility and other occupied areas.
